The Tao of Eating: Feeding Your Soul through Everyday Experiences with Food

Linda R. Harper, (foreword by Thomas Moore, Innisfree Press, 1998)

"I have no doubt, and I have been saying it for years — the best way to soul is through food. Linda's Harper's book on food, eating and not dieting, is the best book on food I have ever seen. It is full of wisdom. It's radically comforting for those of us who keep trying to eat properly. And it is a rare book that gets the idea of soul care exactly right. Read this book, eat well, and you will discover the wonder of living soulfully." ---- Thomas Moore, author of "Care of the Soul" and "The Soul of Sex."

"...a practical-minded, "user friendly" book specifically written for volunteers, caregivers, and workers in social services. Focusing on how giving affects one personally, and finding balance between sacrifice and a healthy, well-adjusted life, Give To Your Heart's Content Without Giving Yourself Away is a powerful testimony and guide to enriching one's life without becoming a martyr, and very highly recommended for the non-specialist general reader undertaking a responsibility for the well-being of another individual as a caregiver or volunteer.

- Midwest Book Review

"The handbook for people who are givers... one of the best books available on the subject of giving... In a society where we are taught that to give to yourself is selfish many people find it hard to take care of their own spiritual and emotional needs, but if we don't then our value to others is decreased. It is only by taking care of ourselves that we are able to truly help others. This is the basic message of Give to Your Heart's Content and it couldn't be more true. Highly recommended reading.

- Harold McFarland, Book Reviewer

I first read "Give to Your Heart's Content; Without Giving Yourself Away" on a recommendation from one of our hospice volunteers. I found the book so inspiring, helpful and on target that I contacted Linda Harper and asked her to speak at a volunteer meeting. Hospice volunteers spend many hours giving compassionate care to others and may not take the time to give to and replenish themselves. This book addresses how to give authentically and wholeheartedly to others, while also giving loving care to oneself.

-Rosemarie Cohen, Coordinator of Volunteer Services, CNS Hospice

This logical book is a good match for people who are compelled to give 'til it hurts. It is reassurance that self-care is not selfish.

-Mary Bergin, The Capital Times, Madison, Wisconsin
